Born in the parish of Donaghmore. On 14-10-1857 Joseph enlisted the army in Belfast for a period of 10 years to serve in the 98th regiment, which later became the 2nd North Staffordshire Regiment. From his medical records in 1857: hight 64 inch (160 cm), circumference of chest 39 inch (98 cm), eyes hazel, hair brown. From his Military History Sheet: Country from to East-Indies 20-4-1858 27-4-1867 West-Indies 28-1-1873 12-12-1875 Malta 13-12-1875 18-8-1880 East-Indies 19-8-1880 18-12-1883 (Afghanistan) He remained in service for 26 years and 80 days. Joseph and Mary had at least 3 children. Joseph died 25.05.1911 in 13 Ardgowan Place, Glasgow. It states on Josephs death cert. that he was a widower of Mary Ryan and an Army Pensioner. He was aged 70 at time of death. Cause- Senility. Parents were Joseph Kelly (dec) and Mary Fenmore (dec). Informant was Rose Howie,daughter, of 19 Ardgowan Place.
